Filipino Singer Jose Mari Chan Reveals Real Story Behind Hit ‘Christmas In Our Hearts’
The Filipino singer Jose Mari Chan revealed the real story behind his popular hit song entitled ‘Christmas in our Hearts’.
Filipino people have already started decorating their homes with beautiful decors for the upcoming Christmas season.
Of course, Christmas music could be already heard in malls, houses, and different establishments on the upcoming Yuletide Season.
Jose Mari Chan’s popular hit song ‘Christmas in our Hearts’ can be already heard everywhere that gives us a nostalgic feel during our younger years.
A few decades after the Pinoy singer first released the Christmas hit song has revealed the story behind his popular hit.
In 1988, Jomari returned to the Philippines after 11 years of doing sugar trading in the United States then his friend Chari Cruz-Zarate asking him to create a melody for her poem.
The poem written by Zarate was entitled “Ang Tubig ay Buhay” which she sings together with her classmates during their homecoming party.
The late Bella Dy Tan, the former head of Universal Records asked the Pinoy singer to create a Christmas album.
The 73-year-old agreed and started to collect favorite Christmas song from his innocent times but Bella told him to include his original composition. Chan suddenly remembered the melody of “Ang Tubig ay Buhay”.
Chan also met Rina Cañiza introduced herself and later contributed the first line of the hit song, which goes “Whenever I see girls and boys, selling lantern on the streets…”
After finishing the song, the Filipino singer thinks that the recording would be ideal as a duet so he contacted Lea Salonga who also agreed to do the duet.
Unfortunately, Salonga’s recording company did not allow her to cross labels, so Jomari contacted the theater actress Monique Wilson who also agreed to do the recording but lost her voice a day before the recording.
The father of Christmas songs asked her 19-year-old daughter Liza to learn the song although she was cramming for exams.
Jomari and Liza recorded the song the next day it was all successful and even received a “double diamond” award (20 times “platinum,” with a sale of more than 800,000 copies and still counting).
